Abdominoplasty (Tummy Tuck)

This is also known as Body Lift Surgery.

This surgery is one of the most commonly sought after procedures.; It is almost a necessity for those who have lost significant amounts of weight following pregnancy, diets and gastric band procedures. The excess skin not only causes aesthetic and psychological problems but also functional problems such as severe back ache and spinal injury as well as mobility.

The goal for the surgery is to remove excess skin and fat to the abdominal wall. Incisions are made across the pubic area which is easily hidden beneath under garments. The floppy skin and adipose tissue are removed. If hernias are present, these are also treated accordingly. The navel (tummy button) is repositioned and the wound closed by plastic stitches. Compresses and bandages are used at the end of the operation.

Bandages need to be worn for 4-6 weeks following the surgery. The wound heals within 2 weeks. After this period the wound is inspected and the patient can return home. Patients need to ensure that they have complete rest for the 2 weeks following surgery.  They can then return to their everyday activities after this.
