Face Lifts (Rhytidectomy)

Face lifts remove the loose skin and wrinkles on the face and neck brought on by the ageing process and tightens the underlying tissues.  To goal of the surgery is to restore your youthful face.

The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic (although general anaestheic is available).  The process is extremely skillful, making an incision in the temporaral hairline and down in front of, around and behind the ear, resulting in an almost invisible join.  It may also be necessary to make a further incision below the chin to remove excess skin around the neck.  This is also virtually invisible.  Incisions are closed by plastic sutures and tight bandages are applied.

This surgical procedure involves a considerable area, and oedema and discolouration of the skin may occur.  In the case of swollen eyes, compresses and eye drops may be needed.

Any internal bleeding during the operation is usually absorbed within 1-2 weeks.  Bandages can be removed after 1 week.  Stitches are removed after 2 weeks.  The final results can be expected in about 6 weeks.
